Back in 1967 when racing to cover the longest distance in 12 hours, Beryl Burton set a record of 277.25 miles. En route Beryl rode past the mens record holder (Mike McNamara) and while gliding by ‘Mac’, Beryl offered him a liquorice allsort from her back pocket. Mac took the sweet and uttered the words ‘Ta, Love.’ This gives us a name for our club and Beryl’s magnificent show of camaraderie and friendship on the road forms our founding principle.
We don’t have ‘club rules’ as such and at risk of building a manifesto, here are our five ideals
Share the road and your sweets.
Show that you enjoy the ride, be gracious and friendly out there – a wave or a nod is free.
Ride safe, be polite and obey the rules of the road – red lights can be your friend.
Any ride is potentially ‘epic’ – a spin to the shops might be your grand tour.
It doesn’t matter how fast anyone else is, they are not in Beryl’s league – so take it easy.
